learn to refresh or enhance furniture yourself!

You Can Refresh or Enhance Your Furniture Yourself

The very old washstand in the picture to the right was not stripped. It was simply enhanced.

Well, there was also a lot of sanding.

The point is you can refresh or enhance furniture yourself.

1st Remove any doors and drawers; take off the hinges, pulls and/ or knobs.

Clean everything with denatured alcohol. You'll probably have to do this a couple of times.

(We like to do this outside as it is messy and denatured alcohol is flammable.)
Follow any and all safety precautions on the container.

If you choose; buy a good marker and go over all the worn areas.
We didn't do that with the washstand, but sometimes We do.

Buy a good wipe-on clear finish and go over everything with 2 coats.

If you feel you can - buy a spray gun and use that instead of a wipe on finish.

We would recommend an oil base finish because that is more forgiving than water based.

Plus, don't forget to lightly sand between coats, if you are spraying.

(Again, follow the safety precautions on all the containers.)

Put everything back together and you're done! Good Job!
